BRIGHTON ROAD SWING BRIDGE

  • The Brighton Road Swing Bridge Replacement Project involved the full removal and replacement of the existing 1947 swing bridge over the Murray Canal in Brighton, Ontario.
  • The work included demolition of the deteriorated steel truss superstructure, reconstruction of the center pier, abutments, and shore walls using micro-piles and tremie concrete, and installation of a new steel swing bridge with modern hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Major highlights include the construction of a wider span with a pedestrian sidewalk, complete modernization of control and power systems, environmental protection measures during in-water works, and a 75-year design life ensuring long-term safety and reliability.
