This design build project involved the construction of a new pump station control building with all required electrical and mechanical systems, along with upgrades to the existing pump station and sanitary system. All work was carried out while the station remained in full service using bypass pumping. The new facilities were commissioned before occupancy of a new 250 home subdivision.
The existing pump station and sanitary systems were modified and upgraded. River crossings were completed by directional drilling, including a 250mm forcemain and a 400mm watermain across the Castor River. An 8m deep excavation supported by shoring was completed for the construction of a new wet well, which included three new one hundred five horsepower pumps and all related mechanical and electrical systems. A new pump station control building was also constructed with all required systems in place. A 7m deep excavation was completed for a new gravity sewer connecting to the wet well with an isolation gate.
A total of 5000m of 300mm sanitary forcemain was installed by directional drill to link the new pump station to the existing lagoon. This system included eleven air release chambers and new air release valves. A section of this work required open cut installation and rock breaking. In addition, 500m of new 300mm watermain was installed with valves, hydrants, and services. The project also included 500m of new sanitary sewer ranging from 600mm concrete pipe to 300mm PVC, along with manholes and service connections.
